PACE Receives Generous Christel DeHaan Family Foundation Legacy Grant

New PACE Building Will be Named in Honor of DeHaan

INDIANAPOLIS – Public Advocates in Community re-Entry (PACE) has been selected to receive a Christel DeHaan Family Foundation (CDFF) Legacy Grant in the amount of $2.748 million. The Legacy Grant will be used for an endowment to fund PACE’s long-term needs.

The Indianapolis-based nonprofit provides a variety of services to currently and previously incarcerated individuals and their families to help them lead productive and responsible lives in their communities. As the leading re-entry agency in the state of Indiana, PACE provides case management, recovery support, moral reconciliation therapy, workforce development, and more.

PACE will honor the late DeHaan by naming its new building after her. The philanthropist died in 2020 and DeHaan wanted CDFF to close following her death. CDFF is allocating its assets to designated organizations through Legacy Gifts. The Foundation closed this year after overseeing more than $133 million in grants over its lifespan.

The new PACE facility will be completed in early 2024 and will be called the Christel DeHaan Turning Point Plaza. Employment readiness, advanced training programming and recovery support services will be provided at the new facility. DeHaan will also be recognized through PACE’s transportation support program and career support services.

“PACE is incredibly grateful to the Christel DeHaan Family Foundation for its support,” said PACE Executive Director Rhiannon Edwards. “The amount of this grant is life-changing for our organization and those we serve. It will transform our organization, catalyze a new period of growth and impact thousands of lives in the years to come.”

DeHaan was a long-time supporter of PACE during her lifetime. PACE’s engagement with Ms. DeHaan began many years ago at a time when re-entry was not supported by all foundations. However, upon learning of PACE’s clients’ needs and organizational impact, Ms. DeHaan did not hesitate to begin supporting PACE initiatives. Her bold and generous support was important then and now. She did not want public thanks in the past, so PACE is delighted to finally be able to share her ongoing support with Central Indiana.
